Perfect.

Someday, I’m going to persuade Mr. Glass to introduce me to Mrs. John Murphy, and I’m going to sob and scream and roll around on the frozen ground of Southwest Ohio, and, as you might expect, I’m basically going to make the entire thing really, really uncomfortable for everybody involved.

Look. Okay, if I really wanted to preserve my hipster-indie-whatever-it-is-now cred, I wouldn’t admit that it was Fight Club that really brought The Pixies into view for me, mentally going from Band I’ve Heard Of to Band I Love while watching explosions that’d give Michael Bay a hardon.

But so there it is: one of the best real straight-ahead rock acts ever, the top of my list for concerts I have to see before I die, and I don’t have a cool word-of-mouth or independent discovery story to go with it. And somehow, that doesn’t devalue their music at all.

Maybe the radio’s onto something.

I’m not really a man that picks favorites, especially when it comes to music. Preferences swing from minute to minute: maybe eating an egg that’s sat a little too long will have me listening to In Flames, or a phone call from a forgotten friend will inspire nostalgia for Ellis Paul.

But in terms of sheer time spent with one track stuck in my head: over the last few years, Mr. Roderick and The Long Winters hold this dubious honor.

Don’t get me wrong — I recognize that the amount of work and pixel-by-pixel, frame-by-frame attention to detail required to make this sort of video means countless tedious hours scrubbing and polishing by hand. But, damn, guys. The Mill sure does make it look like magic.

I recall about two years ago a series of articles on camcorders with “night mode” — their CCD sensors were thermally sensitive, and thus could pick up on humans in low-light conditions. Most of these articles focused on the…somewhat less acceptable uses of such cameras.

Okay, so people figured out you could use ‘em to see through thin clothing.

Unsurprisingly, such cameras seemed to go away quietly. I hadn’t seen footage from one in years. Then, the other day, local station KKXT started playing a bunch of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings. And, like a good nerd, I got to googling.

All those illicit and invasive shots, those titillated teenage trying to technologically tease tops from tits, left us with the ability to get these grainy three-and-so minutes of blind pilot covering Look At Miss Ohio.

Guys…it was worth it.
